Legoland 4D Theater Surround Sound
The Legoland California 4D Theater invites families to watch a rotating series of short film adventures starring beloved Lego characters. Each features unique "4D" effects like rain, snow, and fog, making watching the shorts even more engaging than the standard-issue theatrical experience.
In 2025, PCE completed a major upgrade to the Legoland California 4D Theater facilities; we installed a brand new surround sound system. 14 QSC SR-1020 Cinema Loudspeaker serve as the stars of this new, state-of-the-art audio system. We rigged each with custom mounting hardware: Adaptive Technologies MM-060 Pan and Tilt Wall-Mount Brackets.
With the QSC SR-1020 speakers mounted at the sides and rear of the theater, we still had to deliver audio from the screen area to provide a complete surround sound experience. For this, we erected a custom truss structure with an acoustic treatment. This allowed us to mount five screen channel speakers behind the theater's projection surface: three QSC SC-423C-F Cinema Loudspeakers and two QSC SB-218F 18" Subwoofers.
In addition to playing movies for theme park visitors, the Legoland California 4D Theater is sometimes used as a live venue for meetings, shows, and presentations. To accommodate the different audio needs required by these events, PCE integrated Q-SYS to switch between the new QSC Cinema Speakers and those used for live-performances. A Q-SYS Core 510i Integrated Processor functions as the interface between Entertainment Resource's show controller and the installed effects such as snow machines, fans, and misters.
