Big Sean at CSU Long Beach
The annual ASI Beach Bash brings an incredible concert experience to the Walter Pyramid at CSU Long Beach campus. Past performers at this event include T-Pain, Swae Lee, and Blxst, a list buttressed by this year's headliner, acclaimed rapper Big Sean. PCE produces this show every year, ensuring the CSU Long Beach student body has an unforgettable night.
The production needs for the show begin with the centerpiece: the truss box stage, built from scratch by the PCE team. Ordinarily used for sporting events and graduations, the Walter Pyramid has no stage built into the premises. Thus, we took great care when erecting this SteelDeck behemoth, avoiding any damage to the arena floor.
Once completed, we augmented the stage with a full-on concert lighting package, featuring three rows of high-end moving lights. Haze machines created the appropriate atmosphere, while two follow spots illuminated the talent (Big Sean was supported by opening act Dev).
Of course, the show wouldn't work without a sound system powerful enough to play to the 4,000 capacity arena. Our JBL line array got the job done, while PCE audio engineers worked from DiGiCo consoles at front of house and side stage (for monitors). Big Sean and Dev also took full advantage of PCE Backline, securing the DJ gear they needed for the performance.
Everything culminated in an incredible night for the CSU Long Beach student body. From beginning to end, the crowd was engaged and fully locked in to the action on the stage. Seeing the exuberance of a wild college crowd like this one is one of the great rewards of doing this work, and we can't wait to collaborate on more projects with CSU Long Beach.
